The Center for East Asian Studies

This project would re-inhabit an existing downtown building in center State College, PA. The center would incorporate common areas, study spaces and classrooms, offices, cultural rooms, as well as a few residential spaces.

The Experimental Theater

This theater was a project assigned for the old site of Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, PA. This new up and coming area was to have an experimental theater which would question the traditional views and functions of a theater. My theater would have a stage that dropped down to a lower level to load actors and props. The theater would also be a circle to allow for even viewing and audience interaction.

Kindergarten at Penn State

The Kindergarten at Penn State is an actual project that was in the process of design while this assignment took place. In the woods directly next to the architecture studio and the rest of the arts campus, the university planned to make a kindergarten targeted towards the arts for the children of staff members. I chose to inhabit the existing water tower in these woods to create an experimental kindergarten that included puzzle piece interactive rooms as well as a large immersive lab.

Framing Model

The task with this project was to make a small scale model of an existing wooden frame structure to understand how a wood frame is built.

Sketching with Wood

This was a group project for our building materials class. Without a preconceived plan, the group was to work with these different sized woods, with precut holes for bolts, to assemble a functional space. Ours turned out to be a "studio hang out" space. 

The Controversial Tank

This project was definitely the most fun to be involved with. This campus construction group project could be anything that made some type of political statement. My group chose to to build an almost life size army tank clad with alcohol paraphernalia that would be strategically placed on the route freshman take to the forum lecture hall. This was to be symbolic of the 18 year olds on a journey to a public place to voice their opinions about the drinking age. The statement to be made was that if an 18 year old can die at war for his or her country, they should be granted the responsibility to have a beer. The project was complete with a full out yelling match between two of the jury members.

Paper Architecture

This assignment was to create an inhabitable piece of furniture out of only paper products. I chose to make a media storage chair that could be folded to store or for use as an end table. The chair was made from cardboard boxes with a strong base made of a grid of carpet tubes. Newspaper and colored cardboard was used for aesthetic purposes.
